What Are The Tools And Materials For Making Circles With A Router

The tools may vary depending on the method we choose to cut out these circles,

I will recommend you choose the tools you are convenient with, but in DIY tax like this, we might need the same tools.

If you do not have money to spend on tools, use any Alternative or available tools you have, or you can construct one by yourself.

In my other article, I used a Jigsaw to cut a cycle when building a hanging planter with wood. If you love reading how I build a hanging planter, click here now.[link]

  • Drill
  • Cup drill bits
  • Countersink drill for wood
  • Screws and washers
  • Screwdriver
  • fine sandpaper
  • Work table or cutting table

How To Cut Circles With A Router Step By Step

Knowing how to cut a perfect circle with a router is very important in this Construction.

Reading this writing will teach you how to perfectly cut a circle with a router and do it yourself.

It is best to make our cutting template to cut plywood Or wood circles with a router of practically any type of diameter.

Like in my previous blog post, where I taught how to make a planter with bricks, I drew out my templates on paper.

It is, neither more nor less, a long wooden plank with a central groove along its entire length into which we can attach our router at one end.

Its operation is very simple; we locate and screw the central part of the template.

In the center of the circumference that we want to cut, we will rotate the entire template with the Router machine in operation.

Next, we will show how to make our circle-cutting template for Router machines. Here are the steps involved:

1. First of all, we will have to get a long wooden plank. Paying attention to its thickness is important since we must go through it with the router.

The thicker it is, the longer the bur has to be so it can pass through without problem.

2. We will mark its central axis with the help of a tap and a pencil.

mark its central axis

3. we will leave about 10 cm at the ends uncut to continue with the next step. and, we will use the Router machine to drill the axis and obtain a longitudinal openwork line along the entire length of our template.

4.  with the help of the drill and the cup bit, we will make a hole in one of the edges of our strip and at the height of the central axis.

This drilling will be where we will later attach the router machine.

5. To attach the router to the template, we will measure its base to trace the position of the future screws, which will be responsible for fixing it to our board.

We mark them with a pencil and make the holes with a drill with a countersink drill bit for wood.

In this way, we will ensure that the screws are completely embedded Countersink.

6. Once all the holes have been made, we will have to screw the base of our router into our marks. We will use metal nuts to fix everything well.

7. it’s time to put our template to the test with a simple screw and a toothed washer.

We will fix the plank through the incision in its central axis ( step 3) with the center of what will be our circle.

Once well fixed and using the clamps that we consider necessary, we will rotate our template with the router machine already attached until the circle is completely cut out.

It is similar to drawing a circle with a string attached to a central point but replacing the pencil with the router and the string with our template.

What Are The Different Ways To Make Circles With A Router

There are different ways to achieve this task depending on Different parameters And factors, Which are listed below:

The type of material to be cut, the boards’ thickness, the circle’s diameter, the size, and the router machine we have.

How To Cut Small Circles With A Router

drilling with a cup bit

How to cut a  perfect circle with a router? Now, we want only small circles out of our Plywood.

If the circle is very small, we can use a drill with a cup drill bit or attach a circular cutting metal element.

The cutting metal must have a saw teeth to the drill itself. This way, it would not be necessary to use a Router machine.

How To Cut Medium Circles With A Router

How to cut plywood circles with a router? For circles of medium diameter (10 – 15 cm), we can try to cut them with our router machine

To do this, we will first draw our Perfect Circle with the help of a compass.

Then, we will penetrate the router into the center of the Plywood or plank to move it little by little in concentric circles until we reach the edge of our mark.

The technique will lose precision as the diameter of the circle increases.

Conclusion

How to cut perfect circles with a router: I recommend you Attach your router to  A circle-cutting jig To get the perfect results you want.

It would be best to practice with a board that is unimportant to you before working on the main Plywood to avoid spending more money.

When cutting, I advise you to move your router machine slowly so you can correct them easily, even if you are about to make a mistake.
